This program is designed to provide midwives with essential knowledge and understanding to ensure the safe administration of medications during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care. The program covers key areas such as the legal and ethical responsibilities outlined in RA 7392 Section 23 and other Department of Health regulations, along with an overview of medication safety principles and the impact of medication errors on maternal and neonatal health. Participants will learn how to identify and prevent medication errors by adhering to the "10 Rights of Drug Administration," using strategies like double-checking, independent verification, and effective communication. Also, an in-depth exploration of common medications used in obstetric care, such as uterotonics, and postpartum medications, as well as special considerations for high-risk pregnancies, lactating mothers, and neonates. Finally, midwives will develop skills in educating patients about medication safety, addressing misconceptions, and ensuring informed consent, with a focus on postpartum care and breastfeeding safety. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped to minimize risks, prevent errors, and enhance patient education to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes.
